About us

Taran Tantra Telefilms is a production company that sees itself as a method of salvation; a system to overcome difficulties; representing the ritual of crossing over to safety. When it comes to telling stories – Taran Tantra is the vehicle for the voiceless: the deliverance of liberation.

Taran (Sanskrit: तारण) means liberation; safe passage; a crossing over; or the conquering of difficulties. Often used in the context of overcoming choppy waters, Taran invokes a crossing or a passage to a safe and final landing place.

Tantra (Sanskrit: तन्त्र) means a system; a technique; a doctrine; a method. Most commonly, it refers to the esoteric Hindu and Buddhist traditions that relate to a system of observances including yoga (breathing and postures), mandalas (symbolic diagrams and visualisations), mantras (reciting syllables and phrases) and ritualistic sexual union.

Taran Tantra invokes an inscrutability in an onomatopoeic intonation. Inviting curiosity, it is a portal to the preternatural.

We invite you in to the world of Taran Tantra Telefilms.

Our logo combines the letter “T” in the Roman alphabet, the dental “T” in the Devanagari alphabet (the script for the Marathi, Hindi and Sanskrit languages amongst others) (त), and the dental letter “T” in the Bengali alphabet (ত), in stylised forms. It celebrates the union of English language, the Bengali literary tradition and Sanskritic culture, merging the best of the values and histories of East and West and combining in an alliterative trinity of linguistic and cultural union.

Our colour scheme is YinMn Blue, an inorganic blue pigment that was discovered accidentally by Professor Mas Subramanian (a chemist born in Chennai, India and working in Oregon, USA) that celebrates the same fusion of stories, histories, science and culture that goes to the heart of the Taran Tantra Telefilms ethos.
